Hello and welcome to my website!
I am a ceramicist working in Glasgow.
I have been making ceramics for the past four years. What initially began as a hobby soon took over and I spent many hours self-teaching through youtube videos. Since then I decided to deepen my practise by spending time as a visiting apprentice at Shin Chul's studio in Icheon, South Korea. During this time I learnt traditional Korean throwing techniques as well as the process of wood firing and glaze making through ash.
My work is influenced by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi. A difficult concept to pin down, wabi can be translated as 'tranquil simplicity' and sabi as 'patina or rust,' referring to the beauty that comes with age and the wear of daily use. I like to make works where the beauty lies in their imperfections. As such I work mainly with stoneware, using slip and scoring to create textures.
Aside from making my own work, I also love to share the craft with others. I have taught beginners throwing class at The London Clayworks in New Orleans and also given private lessons at my studio in Glasgow.
I will announce shop updates through my Instagram and in the meantime if you have a special commission or want to get in touch regarding lessons, please send me a message directly via my contact page.
